Silicon Valley
Aggressive Growth Fund
As one of San Jose State University's student-managed investment funds, we focus on investing in securities with the potential for aggressive growth and high returns.

About Us
The Silicon Valley Aggressive Growth Fund is a highly selective, leading undergraduate investment fund at San Jose State University. It was created in 2017 with the funding and support of Dr. Nancie Fimbel and the Center for Banking and Financial Services (CBFS). They provided an initial investment of $30,000 which our team has managed and grown over the years.
The fund was created with the intention of providing students with real-world experience in investment management and equity research. As an extracurricular activity, it is meant to teach students how to apply the concepts they learn in their classes to scenarios actually encountered in the business world. Although the fund is hosted by the Lucas College of Business, it is open to students of all majors with a hunger to learn.

Mission
We believe that having the opportunity to manage real money is a unique and valuable learning experience. The combination of resources and guidance from our sponsors, mentors and executive team are the foundation for our success. Our analysts' intelligence and talent are the reason for our excellence.
The fund aims to support and invest in Silicon Valley Bay Area companies, thus providing mutual benefits to the companies and our team. Our focus on the Bay Area gives local companies exposure and allows our analysts to prospect companies where they want to jump-start their careers.
Our ultimate goal is to develop strong analysts who will succeed in their ventures in and out of school. We aspire to equip them with the necessary research and financial analysis skills that are needed in many finance roles in the Valley. Our students’ success is our top priority and we will provide them with the tools to achieve their dreams.

Investment Philosophy
As is stated in our name, we seek to invest in companies that will provide aggressive returns. In order to do so, we focus on small to mid cap stocks in the Silicon Valley Bay Area. Since we believe that the market is weak-form efficient, we will use fundamental analysis to reveal superior market values. We strive to beat the Spartan Bay Area Index by creating a portfolio of stocks with superior value.
Spartan Bay Area Index
The Spartan Bay Area Index is a custom-built index which is made up of Bay Area companies that are also part of the Russell 2000 Index. It is managed by undergraduate students who are responsible for evaluating which companies to add or exclude.
The Silicon Valley Fund uses the Spartan Bay Area Index to choose which companies to evaluate, while seeking to beat the index in terms of returns.
